The race format for all heats is head-race style, 1500 meters in length; finals are duals, side-by-side. (The head-race trials will determine progression to finals for each event.) The crews posting the fastest two times from each heat will advance to the finals in their event. Finals will be raced in a two-lane sprint format. Medals will be awarded for FIRST and SECOND places. The race course is set up between Grove Street and the 8200 block of McCormick Boulevard. Boats will race NORTH to SOUTH with the finish line at the south end of the course near the soccer fields. The Judge Dunne Regatta is our “home” regatta. It is named in honor of Judge Arthur Dunne, the former presiding Judge of the Circuit Court of Cook County, whose son, Edward “Fitz” Dunne, convinced his father and Loyola teacher Martin Fahey to begin a crew team at Loyola Academy. Judge Dunne came up with the idea of trading three parcels of Metropolitan Water Reclamation District land to the Village of Skokie in exchange for the right to use one of the parcels for a Loyola boathouse.
